 About President biden

President Obama, his wife and Vice President Joe Biden are all set to depart Washington D.C. Tuesday evening for Philadelphia where the president will give a farewell speech outside of Independence Hall on Thursday morning at 11 AM EST before jetting back to Washington.

What it's about

Thursday night near Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Mr. Obama will say good-bye to the nation in a speech likely to be less of a laundry list of policy proposals or historical references than a broader reflection on what he has seen over the past eight years.

Although he is not expected to explicitly lay out his ambitions for his postpresidency, Mr. Obama is likely to take stock of the experience and the challenges he has faced since winning office in 2008.

The speech will be Mr. Obama's first since leaving office last month, and comes as he has been weighing a potential run for president in 2020.

What to expect?

Mr. Obama has already delivered one farewell address during his presidency, an eventful event at the White House where he was joined by dozens of Democratic leaders and friends to help him celebrate his first year in office.

Given that Mr. Obama is the most well known person in America, the speech will be a chance for him to reflect on his achievements, to memorialize those he has lost over the past eight years and also to look ahead at his next chapter.

In his speech at the White House last year, as noted by Politico, he seemed to place an emphasis on meeting challenges head on while saying goodbye to friends and showing gratitude towards former presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush.

"It's been the privilege of my life to serve as your president," Mr. Obama said at the time. "But before I leave my note for future presidents, I want to say one final thank you for the honor of serving you and for the support you provided along the way."

Where will he be Thursday night?

The speech will take place outside Independence Hall near where George Washington delivered his famous farewell address on September 17, 1796. The White House said that Mr. Obama and the first family plan to return to their temporary residence nearby the White House on Friday.

Who else will he see?

The president is expected to spend more than a half hour in Philadelphia, a city that has served as both a backdrop for his eight years in office as well as one of his greatest supporters.

Philadelphia is where officials say Mr. Obama met with Gov. Tom Corbett in 2009 and where he celebrated election night with supporters at the campaign headquarters of his former rival, Hillary Clinton. Mr.
